The STAR Board were saddened to learn of the recent death of our friend and colleague, Professor Lynn Myers. A member of STAR for many years, Lynn was a prominent researcher in anxiety and coping, and was especially renowned for her contributions in the field of repressive coping. She wrote a seminal review of the relevant literature, which was published in the STAR journal, Anxiety, Stress, & Coping (Myers, L. B., 2010. The importance of the repressive coping style: Findings from 30 years of research. Anxiety, Stress & Coping, 23(1),3-17). She delivered a Keynote Lecture at the 2008 STAR conference in London.

Lynn was Professor of Health Psychology at Brunel University London since 2006. Prior to this she was on the faculty of King’s College London, where she had received her PhD in 1993.

A regular participant at STAR conferences, Lynn was well known for her promotion of interdisciplinarity, methodological rigour, and collegial collaboration. Her contributions were unfailingly imaginative and insightful.

Lynn passed away on 21 August 2015.

The STAR community would like to express its great respect for Lynn Myers, and to extend to her family and friends the positivity, encouragement, and fondness that Lynn herself provided to us all on so many occasions over the years. We count ourselves extremely fortunate to have known her.

Professor Charles Spielberger

It is with great sorrow that we must announce the passing of Professor Charles Spielberger. Professor Spielberger was our leader, mentor, and our friend. Although we are scattered across the globe, we know that you join us in thinking of his wife Carol, son Nicholas and family during this difficult time. For years Dr. Spielberger taught and inspired us. May all who were touched by him find peace in their sorrow today. The light of Charlie’s bright star will forever shine on us.
